In the outskirts of Sydney sits something much more than a beautiful garden. Glenmore House, a Georgian, sandstone cottage complete with myriad outbuildings, has expansive Continue reading →

Fallen leaves at Wildwood garden. Janna Schreier

Myriad of colours coat the pathway at ‘Wildwood’ garden, Bilpin; what wonderfully inspiring colour combinations nature provides

What a difference a week makes. Last weekend we were in shorts and t-shirts, enjoying a sunny 29 degrees and completely in denial that summer was (almost) over.

Seven days later and Continue reading →

Gardens: Functional or Aesthetic?

22 April 201517 May 20168 Comments

When I first visited Australia I remember being surprised by much of its building fabric. Translucent, plastic roofs over verandahs; stark, metal, suburban fences; and Continue reading →

Cazneaux tree in the Flinders Ranges

The driest state in the driest continent. So goes the South Australia Tourist Board. And over Easter, Paul and I visited some of the driest towns in that state.

As a gardener Continue reading →

What’s your ‘thing’?

8 April 201517 May 201613 Comments

What is it that makes you want to get up in the morning? What makes your heart sing and all your worries disappear?

I’m very lucky to do a job that I love. Historically, I have got bored very quickly, but I can honestly say that Continue reading →

‘Urban Oasis’ MIFGS Achievable Garden by Veronica Bosque, full of edibles

I’m back, eventually, after a very long four hour flight home from Melbourne. Yes, I know I live in Sydney, it should be just over an hour, but just as we were coming in to land Continue reading →

Sometimes gardens invigorate you. Bright colours, abundant planting, striking artwork and sharp lines can all have this effect.

Sometimes gardens soothe you. They are a place of Continue reading →

Falling in love

18 March 201517 May 20166 Comments

A funny thing happened to me on Sunday. You see I don’t like begonias. Never have done. All those gaudy, mottled pink colours, over the top variegations and rangy Continue reading →

The Challenge of Using Burgundy Foliage

Garden artwork in Melbourne. Janna Schreier

Beautiful corner of Ros McCully’s Camberwell garden

I’ve had a strange relationship with burgundy foliage for the last five years. In 2010, I tried to buy a purple smoke bush (Cotinus coggygria) at my local Bunnings, only to be told, by a sixty-something Continue reading →

Intricate Banksia cones on my morning walk

If you saw my post on Cremorne Point, you will know I am a bit perplexed by Mosman walkers.  And so it was with great surprise (and delight) that on my recent ‘left turn’ morning walk, I would say Continue reading →

Location

I’m based in West Oxfordshire, but I work with gardeners all over the place, in the UK and abroad. My style of working is to guide, rather than prescribe, and a fit on this level is much more important than location, so if you think you might like to work with me, wherever you are, just give me a call or drop me an email.

About

In 2007, I resigned from my corporate job at Heathrow to follow my husband’s career abroad. I engaged in a distance learning course with the Royal Horticultural Society and have never looked back. Now back in the UK, I hope to bring flavours of my adventures to my design ideas, from the clay tropics to the sandy desert. My passion for gardens knows no bounds and I hope I can inspire you to develop your love of gardening too.
