Mount Macedon’s wonderful Tieve Tara

I think this would do me just fine for a work desk

A peaceful spot at Tieve Tara: I think this would do me just fine as a work desk

The brain is an incredibly complex structure. Its functionality amazes me more with each passing year. Not that mine is operating more effectively as time goes on: au contraire Continue reading →

Is there anywhere in the world that beats Lord Howe Island?

Palms (Howea) and ferns (Asplenium) were typical low land scenery on our many walks around the island

Palms (Howea) and ferns (Asplenium) were typical low land scenery on our many walks around Lord Howe Island

Learning to identify the indoor plant, Howea forsteriana, for my up and coming RHS exam in England, I didn’t think I’d see the day that I would visit an isolated 1,455 hectare island, 500 kilometres from Australia, where Continue reading →

Grevillea heaven overlooking the Swan River at Kings Park

I think every Australian should visit Kings Park at least once in their life. It’s hard to think that you could possibly pay a visit and not fall in love with our native plants. From (almost) virgin bush to Continue reading →

Daffodils at Rydal: Opening my mind

Mixed dafodills and jonquils at Chapel House, Rydal

Mixed daffodils and jonquils at Chapel House, Rydal

By some enormous stroke of good luck, a few days before the Daffodils at Rydal event, someone asked Paul what his favourite plants were. By even better luck, one of the three plants that came into his mind happened Continue reading →

Isopogon anethifolius in Muogamarra Nature Reserve

Isopogon anethifolius at Muogamarra Nature Reserve

I’d been feeling a little jealous of WA’s indigenous flora after our trip to Perth, but by a stroke of good luck, last weekend I experienced some of the best that New South Wales has to offer. Seeing them Continue reading →

Bold Park’s incredible biodiversity

Banksia menziesii in Bold Park, WA

The wonderful Banksia menziesii flower, in Bold Park, WA

Stepping into Bold Park was quite an assault on the senses. An incredibly pleasant assault, I might add. It’s just seven kilometres from the centre of Perth, but this huge, 437 hectare, A-class protected Continue reading →

Designing with Succulents

Mixed succulents at Melbourne Botanic Garden. Janna Schreier

Aloe and Cotyledon at Melbourne Botanic Garden

I’ve fallen in love with succulents. Which has come as a bit of a surprise. Admittedly, they are plants; you probably think it is par for the course for me to rave on about them. But these are succulents. You know, solid Continue reading →

A Sense of Place at Regent’s Park

Daylilies in Regent's Park. Janna Schreier

Daylilies by the lake in Regent’s Park, London

This time last year I was in the UK…and what a wonderful time of the year it is for gardens. It’s that perfect point where growth is full and generous, yet still fresh and new; foliage unblemished, tall and Continue reading →

Chelsea Show Gardens: 2015

Chelsea 2015

Chelsea Flower Show 2015. Photo: The Frustrated Gardener

I’m bursting with excitement! It’s Chelsea time.

And what a fabulous year it is. Whilst it doesn’t open for a few more hours and the awards and medals have yet to be announced, I’ve already had Continue reading →

Gardens: Functional or Aesthetic?

22 April 201517 May 20168 Comments

When I first visited Australia I remember being surprised by much of its building fabric. Translucent, plastic roofs over verandahs; stark, metal, suburban fences; and Continue reading →

Location

I’m based in West Oxfordshire, but I work with gardeners all over the place, in the UK and abroad. My style of working is to guide, rather than prescribe, and a fit on this level is much more important than location, so if you think you might like to work with me, wherever you are, just give me a call or drop me an email.

About

In 2007, I resigned from my corporate job at Heathrow to follow my husband’s career abroad. I engaged in a distance learning course with the Royal Horticultural Society and have never looked back. Now back in the UK, I hope to bring flavours of my adventures to my design ideas, from the clay tropics to the sandy desert. My passion for gardens knows no bounds and I hope I can inspire you to develop your love of gardening too.
