Impact of Garden Style on Emotions and Mood

Mary's Place garden in Hawera Janna Schreier

Uplifting – Mary’s garden in Hawera is full of flowers

We all love flowers.  Their cheerful colours catch our eye; we look on in wonderment at how they appear from almost nothing, their scent and delicacy enthralling us.  It is hard to look at a garden full Continue reading →

The Happy Oakley Garden

Oakley Garden, Hawera

A wonderfully happy mix of native and exotics at the Oakley Garden, Manaia

I would describe the Oakley Garden in Manaia as a happy garden. Bursting with colour, it is hard not to have a smile on your face when you are there.  With at least a dozen hanging baskets, and plentiful Continue reading →

Gravetye Garden, Hawera

One of many avenues at Gravetye Garden, Hawera. Here the Buxus is interplanted with Teucrium for colour contrast

This next garden in the series of blogs about the Taranaki Garden Festival is very different to the previous two.  Highly planned, highly manicured and equally loved by Continue reading →

Puke Tarata Garden in New Plymouth

Tree ferns set the local background to this exquisite rose and perennial border at Puketarata

Another strong favourite from the Taranaki Garden Festival was Puketarata.  Created by its owners, Ken and Jennifer Horner, over 35 years, it has that wonderful, but usually elusive, Continue reading →

Maori sculpture at Te Kainga Marire

After a day of glorious sunshine exploring gardens full of vigorous perennials, brightly coloured roses and blossoming wisteria we arrived first thing the next Continue reading →

Get the Gardening Bug

Islands on the approach to Wellington Airport

The view from the plane on the approach into Wellington Airport

With huge excitement, I boarded a plane on Thursday to meet up with a fellow garden designer from New Zealand to attend the Taranaki Garden Festival this week.  Taranaki is Continue reading →

Location

I’m based in West Oxfordshire, but I work with gardeners all over the place, in the UK and abroad. My style of working is to guide, rather than prescribe, and a fit on this level is much more important than location, so if you think you might like to work with me, wherever you are, just give me a call or drop me an email.

About

In 2007, I resigned from my corporate job at Heathrow to follow my husband’s career abroad. I engaged in a distance learning course with the Royal Horticultural Society and have never looked back. Now back in the UK, I hope to bring flavours of my adventures to my design ideas, from the clay tropics to the sandy desert. My passion for gardens knows no bounds and I hope I can inspire you to develop your love of gardening too.
